What To Look For When Shopping For A Snow Thrower

There are a few important things that you should keep in mind searching around for a snow thrower :
  • Do you want an electric powered or gas powered snow thrower ?
  • How much power does your snow thrower need aka the motor ?
  • What is the width of the thrower ? The wider the width the more snow can be removed.
  • Is it easy to assemble your snow thrower and is it easy to operate and maneuver ?
  • Is the chute adjustable so that you can throw your snow where ever needed ?
The Toro 1800 Power Curve 38025 In Action !

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions Do You Go With Gas Powered Or Electric Powered ?

The Toro 1800 Power Curve 38052 is an electric snow thrower. From my experiences this is the only snow thrower that you need to handle even the heaviest of snow. One thing that makes the Toro 1800 Power Curve stand out from a gas powered is the simple 1 button start up. Even on the coldest days it will crank up right away. With this particular model all you have to do is squeeze the trigger on the control bar when you want to start and simply let go when you want to stop it. I found this very helpful as I have had trouble starting many leaf blowers and weed eaters in the past that you have to prime and pump just to get it started.

There is no mixing of oils and gases before use. There is no priming the engine or anything along those lines.  You do not even have to think about going to the store and messing with a gas can to get fuel, changing spark plugs, or taking the time to get it tuned up. Just plug in and go !

With gas powered snow throwers you have to grease and lubricate all moving parts before and after snow season when you put it into storage. If you do not you risk the chance of your ruining your machine due to rust and calcium. This is exactly opposite with the Toro Power Curve.

When the Toro 1800 arrived at our home I was not even there. My wife opened up the package while I was at work. She assembled it and by the time I returned home from work the driveway and walk was cleared. It is that simple to use that my wife could do it and she never does anything technical around the house.

Does The 12 Amp Motor On The Power Curve Have The Power To Get The Job Done ?

I have a drive way that is 30 X 10 and I was able to clear my entire driveway with only 4 passes. I was done even before my neighbor got his big 2 stage gas thrower cranked up. I noticed that the blades were not spinning fast but they surely were throwing the snow about half way in the street. It is about a foot and a half wide and I was amazed how much snow was being removed each pass. I never had to go over snow that I had removed already.

How Does It Handle And Is It Easy To Assemble ?

The Toro 1800 Power Curve 38025 weighs in at a very light 24 pounds so anyone will be able to move and operate it. There is a specially designed handle on top of it which makes moving it very easy. It does not take up much space so you can easily store it anywhere.

The gas thrower I owned before this one was very awkward to move so I was expecting the same from this unit. If you can operate a push lawnmower this will be a piece cake.

The cord lock feature makes sure that you never have to worry about running over the cord. It also ensures that it will never get in your way.

Adjustable Chute Option ?

With the Power Curve you can adjust the chute to be thrown in any direction of 180 degrees. You aren't going to need a set of tools to adjust it either. With a simple remote crank you can turn the chute in a matter of seconds.

Also I noticed that the chute never seems to get clogged or anything like that not matter the amount of snowfall.

There is this extra safety lock feature to ensure that if your machine is ever stolen or you just do not want your kids playing with it. Only the key holder will be able to operate it so you do not have to worry about unauthorized use.

How Much Should You Expect To Pay ?

The Toro 1800 Power Curve is available on the Amazon.com website used for $300 but if you want it brand new its available for $450. The cheapest I have seen it brand new is on Amazon.com where you find it consistently for under $449.

Any Complaints ?

Only found a few complaints from people who tried to use it for above 15 inches of snow and more. It was not designed for that so if thats what you are looking for go ahead and purchase a 2 stage gas powered snow thrower. They start at around $500 and go up from there.
